Stop the Mine! at SYRCL’s Wild & Scenic Film Festival, January 10-12
The San Juan Ridge Taxpayers Association has been given a great opportunity to have a big presence at SYRCL’s 12th Annual Wild & Scenic Film Festival in Nevada City/Grass Valley from January 10-12. We are educating and mobilizing the community to help stop the San Juan Ridge Mine—and we need your help!
The festival is an exciting time, when Nevada County is filled with thousands of people, extraordinary films, art shows, workshops and music, in one of the nation’s premier environmental and adventure film festivals. For all the details, see http://www.wildandscenicfilmfestival.org. Many events are free—like the activist workshops, street events and Indigenous Peoples’ Haven, all in downtown Nevada City.
We need volunteers for information booths at the various film and event venues. Our goal is to get over 1,000 individually signed postcards addressed to our County Supervisors, stating that we are opposed to the mine. In exchange for a 4 hour shift, you will receive a free limited session pass to the festival. We also need roving volunteers to collect signatures on the streets- no film pass, but it should be fun! Have you seen the new tapestry about the gold mine by the Ridge Tapestry Project? This tapestry and all the others made over the past few years can be viewed at the Center for the Arts in Grass Valley from December 31 to January 19 from noon to five (except Sundays), and during film festival events: Jan. 9, until 6:30 p.m., and Jan. 10 & 11- during the evening film screenings held at the Center.
